Members of our seniors community, Prime Time have responded Penny’s Poppy Challenge – a request for knitted and crocheted poppies which will make up the cascade outside Stratford’s Guild Chapel to form the centre piece for the school’s remembrance services in November.

Penny sent out the request over the summer and already more than 150 wool of 5-10cm have been delivered to the Busbridge Old Rectory.  Thanks to all those with nimble fingers and a willingness to take part in a project further afield.

Prime Time is a busy bunch and enjoy a great programme of activities that are tailored to the needs and tastes of older people. Transport is provided to events is on offer for those that need it, and tea and cake is an absolute staple.  The recent visits to Munstead Wood, home to the landscape gardener Getrude Jekyll which has been recently acquired by the National Trust, were a real treat.

This Autumn there’s talks by local historian Alan Bott at Rake Court on the Journeys of St Paul, and Professor Julian Evans will share his meteorological knowledge on the Star of Bethlehem.  Concerts at Guildford Cathedral and Brighton Road offer easy access to high quality live entertainment, while the Monday morning coffee and catch up in the Yew Tree Café, and monthly movie matinees in the church at Brighton Road offer warmth and friendship with a bit of light entertainment.  Everyone will be looking forward the popular annual events at in December; the Afternoon Carol Concert and Sherry with the vicar.  There will be sherry, and a vicar (or 2) but this is a chance for Prime Timers to get to work preparing the hundreds of Christingle kits needed for Christmas Eve.
